The crystal clear waters of Lake Blue Ridge, combined with the majority of the lake being in the Chattahoochee National Forest, and therefore uninhabitable, creates one of the most picturesque mountain lakes in the country. Of the almost 65 miles of shoreline, only about 25% is developed, so the natural beauty will remain untouched by man-made structures. Beautiful blue mountains surround the aquamarine waters and create a breathtaking backdrop for all of the many water sports made possible by the pristine lake.
The 3,290 acre lake was created in 1939, when Blue Ridge Dam was constructed on the Toccoa River by the Toccoa Electric Power Company, in order to produce power for the area. Today, the lake is partially surrounded with campsites, several boat ramps, a marina, public swimming areas and a few home sites. Luckily for everyone who values this unique lake, it’s so easy to always find a spot on the lake to be totally secluded and entirely at peace. The dam has a picnic and viewing area, and just below the dam is a launch area for canoes, so you can fish in the Toccoa River, which is one of the best trout fishing spots in the region, or just float around and be thankful for the beauty that surrounds you.
